In residency at Studio Marie Chouinard January 8th - 25th 2013 for my new creation "Native Girl Syndrome".

Lara Kramer’s new creation "Native Girl Syndrome" is inspired by her grandmother’s experience of having migrated from a remote First Nations community into an urban mainstream culture as a young woman. The piece explores the effects of cultural disorientation, seeking to understand the self-destructive behavior experienced by Kramer’s grandmother.

Dancers: Patricia Iraola and Karina Iraola

In this workshop we will start each morning with a warm-up to support the physicality of the body as it travels through various levels. We will work at finding the most efficient pathways as we travel in and out of the ground, absorbing the fall and maximizing our momentum.
This creation workshop will explore partnering tools that will foster the dynamic of each individual and human connection. We will work with the themes of support and abandon to generate the physicality and theatricality of the work, working in solo, duet and group form. Working with improvisational tools we will further investigate our findings and continue our exploration as we deepen our understanding of the themes within the creative process.
